It’s fresh, it’s fun, and best of all it’s a challenge that provides hours of high-energy arcade action. These little touches may not add up to much on their own, but Earthworm Jim pulls it all off with a style that’s unmatched in most videogame conversions. During the many multi-tiered levels and bonus rounds, you’ll have to become skilled at everything from maze navigation to a Zaxxon-style shoot-’em-up aboard Jim’s famous Pocket Rocket.
Instead of piling on level after level of jump-and-shoot nonsense, Earthworm Jim has some truly bizarre variations on classic PC and console titles. Shiny Entertainment deserves a lot of credit for designing a game that presents a unique brand of tongue-in-cheek style of gameplay. But the thing that sets Earthworm Jim apart from most arcade titles is that it features some of the most bizarre, challenging and hilarious antics in a side-scroller. Sure, you jump around a lot, collecting things, working your way through mazes, and shooting tons of bad guys before you move on to the next level for more of the same. I still love the fact that GOG keep classic games alive like this, it's vitally important we don't lose access to some true classics. They worked perfectly, super smooth as expected from a classic title. This sure brought back some memories! For those that never played it, it's a run and gun action platformer that was originally released in 1994, with the sequel releasing in 1995.Īfter testing both, I couldn't find any issues. I actually played the original on the Sega Megadrive at a friends house when I was younger, I remember being mesmerised by it at the time. Naturally, they come with DOSBox pre-configured so playing these classics is easy on Linux. They come as seperate downloads, but each has the GOG installer powered by MojoSetup.
